You simply have to watch this video. Anthony Weiner left the door wide open for this hard look at the politician’s poor handling of his social media affairs.
Sometimes it’s difficult to choose among the many who distinguish themselves as the ‘Black Sheep of the Week.’ Take this week for example. We have Anthony Weiner, NY congressman, who, despite being married, trolls the internet for other women. Not only does he email them, he sends them lewd photos of himself. Even Jon Stewart, a good friend of Weiner, could not resist taking multiple potshots at the exhibitionist. See, for example: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/anthony-weiners-confession-jon-stewart-jeff-jarvis-eliot-spitzer-weigh-in/2011/06/07/AGhS6CLH_blog.html
Equally bad is Andrew Breitbart, a conservative who has nothing better to do than to out Democrats behaving badly.
So this week the ‘Black Sheep of the Week’ award is split between the two: Weiner and Breitbart. Here’s to having a furry sheep hair pie thrown in each of their faces.
So here it is…The BLACK SHEEP BLOG…
In honor and memory of the Flying Fickle Finger of Fate (for those of us who are old enough to have enjoyed NBC’s Laugh-In in the late 1960s to early 1970s and, more recently, Keith Olberman’s ‘Worst Person in the World’ on the recently dropped program Countdown, I give you a forum to celebrate black sheep humans that affect your/our lives. (An aside: Isn’t it interesting that NBC hosted both Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In and Olberman’s Countdown?)
It is my plan to award the ‘Black Sheep of the Week’ award each week to some deserving character. Now, it would be really fun if you participated in this. Vote for some ‘Winning’ blowhard. Vote for your relative. Vote for some ex-VP who needs a heart transplant. Vote for yourself. Each week, I’ll select the blackest of the black sheep and post here.
I’m thinking of giving out awards (think black sheep products, many of which are available for sale in my store) to the individual who provides the best ‘Black Sheep of the Week.’
P.S. The previous post was posted by my gregarious, irreverent webmaster, bruce. Thanks, bruce, for kick-starting this blog!
That’s what they always said to me… and they were right. It’s not easy being the black sheep of the family. You have to work really hard to maintain your status and reputation, which can be very time-consuming. Wikipedia says:
In the English language, black sheep is an idiom used to describe an odd or disreputable member of a group, especially within a family. The term has typically been given negative implications, implying waywardness. It derived from the atypical and unwanted presence of other black individuals in herds of white sheep.
In psychology [ed., or families!], the “black sheep effect” refers to the tendency of a group to treat or evaluate members of one’s own group who behave in a way such as to jeopardize the group’s image, more harshly than similarly unlikable members of another group, while considering the former group as a whole to be superior to, or better or more deserving than the latter.
Doesn’t that say it all?
